Because they wanted to see if the person was smart enough to vote. I think that there should be more requirements because some people just don't know what their doing they cant even make decisions on their own.

they wanted people that know what they were doing to vote and not just give a random vote. i think we need more requirements so people don't just vote for fun.

i think its a good idea. and to see if the person is smart enough to vote.i think they should make it harder so people that are touched in the head can't vote.

They were required to keep people who are incapable of voting from voting. Yes I do believe they should return, but within reasonable passing qualifications.

Because they wanted to know if the person was smart enough, I do think there should be more requirements today because we need to do things on our own

Literacy tests were required to make sure that a qualified voter had the capacity to cast an informed ballot. There definitely should be more requirements like the literacy tests, so that the people who are voting know what they are doing and what they are voting for.

They wanted to restrict the black population from voting so literacy test were formed and then rigged so even literate blacks couldnt pass.

Literacy tests were used to ensure people were making an "informed vote." I don't really think it's relevant today. Just because you can read doesn't mean you know anything about the candidates and in no way ensures an informed vote.

They wanted to make sure that they were smart enough to know what they were voting about. I think that they should make more requirments for voting by making them know something about what theyre actually voting on.

They were a requirement that way only educated people could vote. I don't think there should be other requirement because then it would be too hard to vote.

Literacy tests were required to make sure that a qualified voter was smart enough to cast a vote. I think that their should be more requirements to vote simply because some people have no idea what they are voting on but continuously complain. you should have to have knowledge on what you are voting for.

Literacy tests were used to make sure the voters were making an informed vote. I don't think that whether or not a person can read or write really says they can make an "informed vote." I don't think that requirements are really relevant today.

Literacy tests were required to make sure that the voters were qualified to be voting because they had the ability to cast an informed ballot. I do think there should be some form of literacy test, but not to the extreme that they once were. The reason I think there should be a form of literacy test is because then there would be a reduction in the people who go to vote who don't have a clue what is on the ballot.

There should be requirements to be able to vote, so that we all have some of the same understandings.
